What Is A Solar Inverter And How Does It Work?

Solar inverter is a device that transforms solar panels’ produced direct current (DC) electricity into the alternating current (AC) electricity used by the electrical grid. These are the main elements of the solar system. Moreover, solar inverters are increasing rapidly for residential use. It generates electricity and is a reliable backup power source. It converts direct current to alternating current. This current is useful for household appliances. In this article we will discuss Solar inverters and how does it work.

What are Solar Inverters?

Solar inverters help to generate electricity. It is an important element that is required in every solar system. It is the device that converts electricity from DC to AC for that electric grid is used. AC current is mostly used in household appliances that operate on electric grids. DC holds the current and exact voltage of electricity in one direction. AC flows the electricity in every direction of the circuit to change it from negative to positive.

What are the types of solar Inverters?

Solar inverters depend upon the solar energy storage system that you have installed. It depends upon the Kw of the solar panel or solar energy system. Basically, these are of 3 types.

  1. On-grid inverters: These work independently and require batteries. It is low-cost and the most common inverter of all. This inverter works when there is availability of both solar and grid power.
  2. Off-grid inverters: These consist of batteries but the grid power is not available. It is mostly used in remote areas. It works independently and also requires battery storage.
  3. Hybrid inverters: This consists of both battery and electric grid. This closely resembles the grid-connected model, where multiple power sources like solar/PV, the grid, battery storage, hydro plant, or other power sources are connected in parallel to supply the load.

How do solar inverters work?

It is a kind of converter that supplies power DC into AC. It transforms alternating current to approximately 120V or 240V to AC. The process of converting sunlight from DC to AC is called inversion. It involves switching directions to electric current with a frequency of 50–60 Hz (hertz). When the sun shines on the solar panel, the layers of solar panels absorb the light and convert it into solar energy. When electrons move between negative and positive layers it produces DC electricity. Then it is transferred to solar batteries to store it for backup. DC electricity is then transferred to the inverter. But household appliances require AC electricity. To convert DC electricity to AC electricity it transfers the energy to the transformer that generates AC electricity for household appliances.

Conclusion:

Solar inverters are the main element that ensures to generation of electricity from solar panels. The electric grids generate electricity in a clean and sustainable manner. To know more about solar inverter follow the guidelines and talk to the solar inverter manufacturer near you.
