Reynolds and Jackman Celebrate "Deadpool & Wolverine" Success

Los Angeles (dpa) - "Deadpool & Wolverine" sweeps the box office on its opening weekend, and the lead actors are thrilled and thanking fans—with humor. Hugh Jackman (55) is seen in an Instagram post lying on a bed in his Wolverine costume, looking wistfully at a picture frame. Another photo reveals the picture with the caption: "#1 Movie In The World." "Thanks to ALL of you!" he writes to his followers.

It's kind of hard to process, jokes Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds (47) in an Instagram story about the box office success. He thanks everyone who watched the movie over the weekend. He also posted a picture of himself, in reference to Jackman, also in costume on a bed, looking at a framed photo. That photo shows Jackman in his Instagram pose. "I miss Hugh already," Reynolds writes. The two stars are known for being good friends who enjoy poking fun at each other.

The third Marvel blockbuster about the anti-hero Deadpool grossed over $438 million worldwide over the weekend, according to estimates by Disney Studios (about €403 million). In North America alone, it brought in $205 million. According to the Disney announcement, this is the best domestic box office opening ever for an R-rated film.

Due to the strict R-rating in the USA, teenagers under 17 can only see the movie if accompanied by an adult. For comparison, the original "Deadpool" film debuted in 2016 with $132 million in North America, and "Deadpool 2" brought in $125 million at its 2018 debut. "Deadpool & Wolverine" is packed with the usual brutal, often vulgar humor and entertaining action.
