Overwatch 2 Considers 6v6 Format Amid Community Feedback

Keller noted that increasing the player count from 5v5 to 6v6 could lead to performance issues due to the enhancements made in Overwatch 2, including new features, more demanding hero kits, and visual upgrades. The game operates on older hardware, such as the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, which could complicate the transition. "While a limited-time test could arrive sooner, the team is still investigating how long it would take to permanently enhance performance across the game," Keller estimated, suggesting it could take "at least several seasons" to achieve this goal. Queue times also remain a concern for the Overwatch 2 team. Keller pointed out that the previous 6v6 format contributed to queue time issues in the original game, which have been alleviated in Overwatch 2, partly due to the switch to 5v5.
