Los Angeles (dpa) - Britney Spears' (42) autobiography "The Woman in Me" was a bestseller last year. Now, Hollywood wants to bring the singer's tumultuous life to the big screen as a biopic. Universal Pictures has secured the rights to the memoir. According to an announcement, US director Jon M. Chu (44, "Crazy Rich Asians," "In the Heights") is on board. Initially, no information was given about the casting of the lead role.

She is excited to share with her fans that she has been working on a "secret project" with producer Marc Platt, Spears wrote on the platform X on Thursday (local time). He has made her favorite movies, the singer ("Baby One More Time," "Oops!... I Did It Again," "Toxic") added.

Platt, who brought film hits like "Legally Blonde" and "La La Land" to the screen, is on board as a producer for the Spears film, according to "Variety" and "Hollywood Reporter." He also produced the film musical "Wicked," directed by Chu, which is set to be released in theaters in November.

In the book "The Woman in Me," Spears put her emotions on paper, writing about the highs, breakdowns, and low points of her life. She also candidly criticized her father, former lovers, paparazzi, and the media.

Spears, who has been awarded multiple platinum records and Grammy Awards, is one of the most successful artists in music history. In 2008, her father took over guardianship of the musician after she suffered a mental breakdown due to personal and professional problems. In mid-November 2021, the singer was legally freed from this guardianship after a long battle.
