The New Zealand immigration department has successfully implemented a new Biometric Capability Update to identify some fraudulent applications. It will help in reducing manual interventions. Biometric data to utilize include face photos, fingerprints, and DNA samples. It will ensure the entry of unwanted people into the country.
The move is followed by an assessment of the Immigration New Zealand Identity Management System conducted by the privacy commissioner. Special attention will be paid to ensure that there remains no bias against the indigenous Maori Population of New Zealand when collecting biometric data.
