Fede Alvarez spoke about casting young actors for 'Alien: Romulus' to amplify the fear factor for the audience.

The 46-year-old director has helmed the new installment of the sci-fi horror film series and believes that up-and-coming stars like Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced will greatly resonate with viewers.

In an interview with 'Variety,' Fede revealed: "For me, it was an opportunity to imagine what it would be like for a group of young people to grow up in one of these sci-fi colonies and face this creature at the end of the world. In a way, it brings them closer to the audience.

They know nothing about the world they are diving into. A rule of thumb in the horror genre is: the younger the people are, the harder it is to watch them die. We all agree on that.

On screen, if an 80-year-old man dies, you've had a good life; but if a 12-year-old kid dies in a movie, it breaks your heart." Fede added that he wanted to pay tribute to the past 'Alien' films while also giving the franchise a modern touch.

The 'Don't Breathe' director said: "We left many of the perfect elements of those original films untouched because we didn't need to improve them, but then we added a lot of new things. That makes it modern and current."
