Environmental Monitoring and Laboratory Testing In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (3) of Section 16 and sub-section (2) of Section 17 read with sub-section (4) of Section 4 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 (Act 6 of 1974) alongwith rule 28 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Rules, 1975, and under sub-section(3) of Section 16 of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 (Act 14 of 1981), the Central Pollution Control Board has established the Board’s Laboratories at different locations. The laboratories which are accredited from the Moef, NABL, and SPCB can only take the samples and analyze the various parameters of Air, Water, Noise, Soil, Stack emission, etc. Environmental monitoring is conducted on quarterly, six monthly, or yearly basis as per the categorisation of industries into Red, Orange, Green of CPCB and SPCB.
