Th1/Th2/Th17

Difference among th1, th2 and th17

Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg subsets of CD4 T-cells can be distinguished from one another based on the way in which they produce cytokines. Cellular immune responses involve protective Th1-related cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-2 and interferon (IFN)-γ. Th2-related cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10) have anti-inflammatory and humoral immune characteristics. These, however, appear later in the course of periodontitis and contribute to the long-term development of the illness. Th17 cells were found to draw in neutrophils and macrophages to contribute to and intensify the inflammatory response.
