Surface Plasmon Resonance

SPR biosensors have been a popular type of tagless sensing tool for analyte detection in liquid medium within the past ten years. Sensitive measurement of surface changes resulting from adsorption and/or biomolecular interactions of immobilized ligands and their analyte in solution is made possible by surface plasmons generated by the interaction of light with the transducer's gold atoms. When compared to the majority of immunoassay methods, like ELISA, SPR immunosensors have the following benefits:

Greater simplicity, high sensitivity, and specificity in a shorter detection time

enabling the evaluation of an antibody's specificity and the recording of successive binding events

The binding event is shown in real-time, eliminating the need to name any of the interacting species.
