Milind Kumar Addresses USA's Middle Order Problems

ODI cricket has seen a significant upsurge under Milind Kumar. The former batsman for Delhi and RCB is on a roll after hitting his first ODI century with a brilliant 155* off 110 deliveries. At an astounding average of 70, he has amassed 354 runs in just seven innings of his ODI career. 

Even though he is rightfully showered with awards, his job was on the verge of collapse following the conclusion of the MLC in July. Milind bitterly describes his 15-year professional career's "lowest point."

Milind Kumar was faced with a decision. With an impressive resume from his domestic circuit in India, which included winning the Ranji Trophy batting charts in 2018, he entered the USA set up with an inflated CV. 

However, his international career got off to a rough start as he failed to record an innings of note in his two T20 World Cup matches and a couple more against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh before the tournament. His performance in the MLC collapsed as he managed just 50 runs in seven innings while frequently switching up the batting order against the Texas Super Kings.

"I was placing excessive demands on myself to meet expectations. I was overly harsh on myself after every setback since I had high expectations. Following the MLC season, I gave my Indian coach, Haresh Kumar, a call. I emailed him videos of my dismissals and net sessions. He made a few adjustments to my grip and batlift, "Milind remarked.

Before approaching a delivery, I have also included some breathing exercises in my stance regimen. That has made it much easier to turn off the negative and concentrate on my work.

After the MLC, Milind's new regimen began to pay off handsomely as he burst back into runs with a light-hearted half-century. 

Despite being named in the ODI squad, he was left off the T20I team for the trip to the Netherlands. In the T20Is, he was dropped following lackluster returns at number 6, which he says was uncharted ground. At the request of skipper Monank Patel, he was assigned to lead the middle order in one-day Dutch cricket matches, starting at number four.

Since then, Milind has appeared unbeatable in the format. He attributes his rise to the confidence people have in him, which allows him the freedom to play as good of a batsman as he is. As evidenced by his brief ODI career, Milind possesses the presence of a zen master when operating at peak efficiency. 

He is a superb spinner who, with some excellent batting fundamentals, can be quietly confident of his position in the middle. Out of the three teams in the Netherlands, he was one of the few handfuls to demonstrate his control over some hostile batting surfaces that seamed and spun enough to test the mettle of any hitter.

Milind set a higher standard in Namibia than he did in the Netherlands. Before his epic 155*, he quickly got the USA out of a tight situation with a 74* that had them cantering home with five overs remaining. Over time, the USA hasn't been excellent in the middle order. 

Occasionally guilty of giving up when faced with an unreasonable request. The ideal counterbalance to the previous middle overs struggle in the United States has been Milind's soft-spoken yet adaptable ODI image.

If anything, the last two innings have served as a stark reminder of his versatility as a batter, as he has destroyed the opposition's power-hitting aspect of the game with a flurry of ten sixes. That one is too many for someone who many in the USA setup had written off as a T20 player.
